Book Review: The Bollywood Blind Item
I am always on the lookout for books based on murders, and thrilling storylines. I especially love the ones that involve Bollywood or can provide me a glimpse into the hitherto unknown side of Bollywood. I was delighted when I saw this book - The Bollywood Blind Item on Amazon.in which fits into all these genres.
The book is based on Siddhant Singh - a young & successful actor who seems to be a character inspired by Sushant Singh Rajput, Kartik Aaryan & Ayushmann Khurrana i.e all outsiders who have made it in nepotistic Bollywood. Siddhant Singh is found hanging in his home by his maid just a week after the death of his manager (clearly inspired from SSR scandal). A Bollywood gossip portal much like ours then goes on to post a blind item that hints at Siddhant's death being a murder. This leads to chaos which includes a bid to murder the owner of the gossip portal. Meanwhile, Siddhant's sister - Sunita & CM of the state - Vijayendra Bhave try to get justice for Siddhant. Was Siddhant indeed murdered or was it a case of suicide? You will have to read the book to find that out!
The book is a complete page-turner. It gives the reader an insider view into the dark side of Bollywood & politics. I couldn't help but read the book till the end without being able to put it down. I finished it within 2 days. The book not being too long & boring did help. I did feel at times that the book could have been longer. But that is a shortcoming I am ready to ignore.
I would recommend this book to everyone who likes to read books based on Bollywood & likes to read thrillers.
