Inside Edge Review

Spread the love

Inside Edge is the first Indian TV show from Amazon Prime. It is produced by Excel Entertainment – a name synonymous with hip urban movies. As the name suggests Inside Edge revolves around a fictional IPL type cricket tournament. The makers have no left no stone unturned to make it look as slick as the US based TV shows in Amazon Prime’s library. Cricket & entertainment are religions in India, but combining the two has not always given favorable results. Did the makers of Inside Edge succeed in entertaining us? Lets find out.
The show has its share of adult scenes & has cleverly blended fact with fiction. The show boats of of an ensemble cast, which includes Sarah Jane Dias, Alex O Neil, Sanjay Suri, Tanuj Virwani, Angad Bedi & last but definitely not the least Vivek Oberoi

Several characters seem to be inspired from real life cricketers. Even viewers who are not avid cricket fans will be able to guess the inspiration behind different characters. This adds a certain amount of authenticity to the show. Angad Bedi as Arvind – the team captain of Marvels – uncanny resemblance to Rahul Dravid, Tanuj Virwani as Vayu Raghavan – a Virat Kohli inspired character & the team’s star batsman, Richa Chadha as Zarina in a role loosely based on Priety Zinta & Vivek Oberoi as Dhawan the antagonist are the main characters of the show.
Nobody must have Tanuj Virwani much thought after his forgettable debut in Bollywood, but Inside Edge will definitely make him a star. He is the show stealer. The bad boy with a good heart. He gives a convincing performance as the drug addled, narcissistic cricketer. Richa Chadha impresses as the team owner cum puppet, but she needs to lose some weight soon. Angad Bedi is believable in his role as the upright team Captain of the Marvels, who is now retired from playing at the international level. Sayani Gupta who plays Vayu’s sister Rohini, should have been given a meatier role. Amit Sial as Devender Mishra kills it in every scene. You just want to kick his racist ass everytime you see him. It was good to see Sanjay Suri as Niranjan Suri -the ex cricketer & the coach of Mavericks on screen after so long. He does his job well. Vivek Oberoi – the most well known face on the show gets into the skin of his character & delivers a good performance. But a closer look will reveal several flaws in his character. His character should have been defined better. Maybe the makers will correct this in the next season. Karan Anshuman may have had several flops, but gets it right this time.

The show will keep you intrigued till the end. The twist in the end was superb & few will see it coming. We just could not stop ourselves from bingeing on this show. We are eagerly awaiting the second season.
A lot was riding on this show. The terrific response this show has garnered will motivate Amazon prime to invest in more Indian content. Finally a Indian TV show we can be proud of!
