Raghubir Yadav – A Womanizer Or A Victim

Is Raghubir Yadav a womanizer & guilty of abandoning his family? The answer to it is quite complex. Read our article to find out.

Raghubir Yadav is an Indian film, stage and television actor, singer, music composer and set designer. He made his film debut with ‘Messy Sahib’ in 1985 in which he played the title role. He has got to International awards as best actor for ‘Messy Sahib’, FIPRESCI Critic’s Award, Venice Film Festival 1986 and the IFFI Best actor award. The actor also got the Silver Peacock award at the 11th International Film Festival of India in 1987. The film also starred the noted writer and social activist, Arundhati Roy. He is an alumnus of the 1977 batch at the National School of Drama.

He also played the role of ‘Chacha Choudhary’. And performed as an actor and singer in over 70 plays and about 2500 shows. He travelled in caravans, lived in tents and performed on makeshift stages in villages, towns and cities of India with the Parsi Theatre Company. Worked was with the Rangoli Puppet Theatre, Lucknow, performing with glove puppets.

He provided singing and voice for ads of Pepsi, Parle, Vim, Kotak Mahindra, Icy Cool Mint, Coke, Midday, Bagh Bakari Chai, Crack cream, Maggie Mania, Britannia etc. Yadav recently collaborated with Hitesh Sonik to sing ‘Lamh Tera’ in the second season of Coke Studia @MTV, Season 2. The show was aired on MTV India on 14 July and this song was the fifth and last to be shown on the show. The song is a folk song from Madhya Pradesh. Earlier, the journey from one place to another would take days. While travelling people would then sing to ensure everyone is safe. This style of singing was called ‘lum tera’.

Raghubir Yadav, Lagaan fame senior Bollywood actor got accused of having an affair outside marriage by his estranged wife Purnima Kharga. She has now filed a divorce at the Bandra Family Court after 32 years of marriage. She is demanding alimony of 10 crores INR and maintenance of 1 lakh INR every month. They have been staying separately since 1995. The duo tied the knot in 1988 but their marital life went on a rocky road after seven years of marriage.

Reports say she has also accused him of adultery and desertion. She said that she quit her career as an international Kathak dancer to support Raghubir during his struggling period in the industry. On the other hand, he deserted her for other women after becoming a successful actor.

In an interview with SpotboyE, Purnima has also accused him of having an affair with acclaimed director Nandita Das. She said that he had an affair with Nandita while being married to her.Purnima said that Yadav was working in Raj Barot’s serial when he fell in love with Nandita Das. She further said, ‘Raghu took Nandita to his parents in Jabalpur and filed for divorce. He wanted to marry Nandita however she left him, she told him one day that she has fallen in love with someone else. Besides, many people starting telling her that she shouldn’t settle down with Raghubir as it would be only messy.’

She had spoken many things about her broken marriage and what led to divorce. Purnima said, ‘Raghubir is currently living-in with Sanjay Mishra’s wife Roshni Achreja. He admitted this in the court. They have a 14-year-old son. Things started going wrong after seven years of our shaadi.’

While talking about how Raghubir got in a relationship with Roshni, Purnima added that Raghubir and Sanjay Mishra were staying in the same building. he started getting friendly with Roshni and she got pregnant with Yadav and told Sanjay that she wanted to divorce him. However, Raghubir and Nandita have not reacted to the allegations by Purnima. Raghubir and Purnima have a son who is 30-year-old and stays with Purnima. She filed for maintenance under the Criminal Procedure Court currently receives Rs. 40000 a month from him. She insisted that the payments are never made on time.

She alleged that he had transferred most of his assets in Roshni’s name to avoid paying maintenance. Roshni was featured in the TVserial ‘Banegi Ani Baat’. She didn’t respond to Mirror’s calls and repeated texts. Raghubir in an earlier interview with Mirror had said that he has ‘gone through hell and torture’ at the hands of his wife and son. ‘The matter is subjudice, so any comment would be inappropriate but sympathy seeking at the cost of tarnishing someone else’s image has become very common. I will not resort to it as I have full faith in the Indian Judicial system.’

One might be forgiven to blame Raghubir Yadav entirely after reading Purnima’s interview. But the truth may be a lot more complex. It is entirely possible that it is in fact Raghubir Yadav, who is the victim here.

Raghubir said I would rather die than pay maintenance. I am not SRK or Salman and I don’t make that much. If I give everything to her how will I survive? He said she probably earns more than me but she just wants all my money. She also threatened him to get her a 20000 sq feet house. He said Purnima is a Nepali with no passport. She drinks and dances for men at the Press Club. He said he didn’t marry her out of love but because he pitied her condition. She used to and still lives at Mandi House with four to five men and is out most of the nights. She drinks and parties but a farmer’s son like me doesn’t have anything to do with such a lifestyle.

After knowing this, things get even more complicated and we can’t judge as to who is saying the truth.
