Mr India is one superhero that is still iconic, classic and undoubtedly the most loved. It is a 1987 movie of Shekhar Kapur starring Anil Kapoor, Sridevi and Amrish Puri. There have been several reports on the remake of the movie. A recent one says things are taking shape. According to the report, director Ali Abbas Zafar is planning to make the film on a similar premise. This Mr India will not be a remake or reboot but a spinoff in current times. The makers are planning to rope in Ranveer Singh, which makes the project more interesting. There are rumours about Shah Rukh Khan playing the role of Mogambo.
Although this hasn’t been confirmed by any official sources. Ranveer is a big fan of Anil Kapoor and is interested to be a part of the film. Ranveer is particular about the script and he doesn’t want this cult classic to go wrong in its spin-off. Ali Abbas Zafar and Ranveer worked together in Gunday and this will make their second collaboration. However, the filmmakers took it to Twitter, denying the rumours that no actor has been finalised. They said it is a huge responsibility to carry forward an iconic character loved by everyone. Currently, they are working on the script; no actor has been locked till now. Once they lock the first draft of the script, casting will begin.
Presently, Ranveer has three big films lined up, starting with Kabir Khan’s 83, YRF’s Jayeshbhai Jordaar and then Karan Johar’s historical Takht. He recently bagged the Best Actor in a Leading Role Male at the 65th Amazon Filmfare Awards for his outstanding performance I Gully Boy. He was also said to be in talks to play Indian comic book superhero Nagraj in the live-action film which is also underway. The actor has emerged as one of the most sought after stars in the industry with an impeccable hit record.
He has starred in several films which have gone on to become blockbusters and also get critical acclaim. Currently, he is gearing up for the release of 83 with an ensemble cast of actors. The film is one of the most anticipated movies for this year. The film revolves around the pride-filled moment of the 1983 World Cup win by the Indian cricket team.In a conversation with a leading daily, filmmaker Boney Kapoor had said that the film is coming back as a reboot. ‘The idea is to create a reboot first, and then, to make a franchise of it. It needs to be made more contemporary. We have a basic structure in our mind. We haven’t decided on a timeline yet, but intend to make it soon.’
The film is titled as Mr India 2 and will be produced by Zee Studios. Mr India 2 is expected to hit the silver screen in 2022. The entertainment portal reveals that Ali Abbas is silently working on the project. He is treating it as his dream project. The makers are expecting to add a fresh new touch to an already existing classic. They have also revealed that the movie will be among the biggest films to come out of Bollywood. No matter whoever will be cast, will they be able to match the benchmark set by Anil Kapoor and Amrish Puri?
It will be great to see Ranveer Singh and Shah Rukh Khan on the big screen together. And what adds to the excitement is to see them together in the spin-off of the iconic Mr India. If the reports doing the rounds are not playing with us and are true then the director might have the casting coup of the decade. The remake might not be a remake but a spin-off with the story taking new twists and turns and of course to make it relevant to the times. We hope that the makers soon announce regarding the casting of the movie.
