SOTY2 has under performed but KJo is planting a fake narrative about its success via online portals & some trade experts. Read our article for more details!

On May 10,released Karan Johar produced teen drama, Student Of The Year 2. It is the second installment of the SOTY franchise. The first installment released in 2012. While the original was also directed by Karan Johar, the reloaded newer installment is directed by Punit Malhotra.

Karan Johar is well known to favour actors hailing from a filmy families. More than once has he extended his support towards these star kids. Often producing movies solely to cast star kids to launching them with grandeur, no wonder he is the favorite mentor of many a star kid. He launched Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan, both of them coming from filmy families and had ensured their smooth transition into Bollywood with Student Of The Year. This time it was for the launch of Chunky Pandey's daughter, Ananya and Disney girl, Tara Sutaria. The teen drama showcased nothing but “students” coming to college in designer clothes and luxury cars, dancing and fighting mid air. The performances were praised but the villain of the movie was the script itself. Tiger Shroff in spite of his limited acting chops did what he does best- dance and kick the bullies. Tara was good and Ananya too impressed. Unlike the previous SOTY film which had a few hummable tunes, the music here is also tad boring. The direction too was not up to the mark. Director Punit Malhotra who has movies like Gori Tere Pyaar Mein and I Hate Luv Storys to his name, failed to live up to the expectations. The lack of sensible plot added insult to the injury. The movie was heavily trolled right from the day of its trailer launch. Meme makers marvelled at the fact that the students did everything but study. Forget studying, they are not even seen holding a book! The movie didn't receive much word of mouth praise to keep bringing the audience into the theatres, which ahs resulted in an average box office collection. The most likely audience were school going teenagers! But, when you work hard to make a film,it is quite embarrassing if it doesn't work. And as far as Karan Johar is concerned, his stars are not favouring him much these days. With a massive flop called Kalank earlier this year, Karan is running on a huge loss. Definitely he cannot go on another loss back to back. Hence he had been ensuring that SOTY2 does well at the box office. From planting fake stories about Tara dating Tiger to hype the buzz to taking the help of his PR to make it appear that SOTY2 indeed did well to give a positive momentum to the word of mouth, he is leaving no stone unturned. Truth be told, very few had high expectations from SOTY 2 for everyone knew the purpose of the film. It is just a mere launch pad to skyrocket the careers of Tara Sutaria and Ananya Pandey. Yet some online tabloids and entertainment portals are busy establishing that SOTY worked well. They state that the response of the audience to the film was appreciable and there was sufficient turn out at the theatres. Well, well. Media can easily be tamed if you have money and a great PR team! While the movie is not a flop, it is not doing hit business either.
