Ghazal Alagh: Entrepreneur, Innovator, and Artist
Ghazal Alagh, born on September 2, 1988, is a well-known Indian entrepreneur, investor, and artist. She gained prominence as the co-founder of MamaEarth, a widely popular brand in the personal care segment. Currently, she serves as the Chief Innovation Officer of Honasa Consumer Limited, the parent company behind brands like MamaEarth, The Derma Co., Aqualogica, Ayuga, BBlunt, and Dr. Sheth’s. Ghazal was also featured as a judge on the first season of the Indian edition of Shark Tank in 2021.

Early Life and Education

Ghazal was born and brought up in Gurgaon, Haryana, and is the eldest of three siblings. Her parents are Kamlesh and Sunita Sahni. She pursued her undergraduate degree in Computer Applications from Punjab University, graduating in 2010. Later, in 2013, she attended the New York Academy of Art, where she specialized in modern, figurative, and applied arts.

Career Journey
She began her career in 2008 at NIIT in Chandigarh, an environment where she trained corporate employees on various software tools that included Oracle, SQL,  and J2ME.

In 2012, she started her first company, Dietexpert.com, a site that offered personalized diet plans based on age, weight, and fitness objectives.

A big entrepreneurial break came in 2016 when she and her husband, Varun Alagh, co-founded Honasa Consumer Pvt. Ltd. With the strong motivation of looking for toxin-free and safe products for their newborn, MamaEarth was launched by the couple. The brand started initially with six products, including lotions, rash creams, and shampoos.Over the years, the company expanded its portfolio to over 500 products and became the first unicorn of 2022. In November 2023, the company made its debut on the stock market. MamaEarth also holds the distinction of being Asia’s only MADE SAFE certified brand.

In 2021, Ghazal became a household name after appearing as one of the “sharks” on the entrepreneurial reality show Shark Tank India.

She is regarded as one of the foremost female painters in India, with her work exhibited on national and international platforms.
