Many Hindu communities use the surname Jayswal, sometimes known as Jayaswal. Jaiswals operate in a variety of commodities and are primarily traders. A few of them were skilled in the craft of crafting alcohol in the past.

Many Hindu communities, such as the Kalwars, Jains, and Rajputs, use the surname Jaiswal. The Bania caste, one of the four main varnas and a subgroup of the Vaishyas, is the primary user of it.

Some state governments have designated the Jaiswal community as Other Backward Class (OBC), including Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi. Nonetheless, under India's system of positive discrimination, Jaiswal Jains and Rajputs continue to be classified as General Category members.

History

Although the history of the Jaiswal community is unknown, it is hypothesized that they originated in the Uttar Pradesh town of "Jais," where their ancestors are thought to have originated. The majority of these may be found in North India, which includes Rajasthan, Delhi, Agra, and Maharashtra.

In 2003, the state governments of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh identified and classed the Jaiswal Kalwars as an Other Backward Class.
