Jummy Olabanji (born April 22, 1984) is a Nigerian-Canadian-American broadcast journalist recognized for her fantastic on-air personality and award-winning reporting for NBC4 Washington (WRC-TV). 

Olabanji was born in Toronto, Canada, and raised in Fairfax County, Virginia. She comes from a household with immigrant parents, Bola and Christiana Olabanji, and has two younger siblings, Olaide and Tomi. 

She was academically gifted in Westfield High School in Chantilly, Virginia, and earned a B.A. in Mass Communication from Virginia Tech (2002 - 2006) and a Master’s in Communication & Leadership from Gonzaga University in 2011.

Jummy began her journey in journalism as an intern at NBC Universal in 2005 and then worked for CNN’s The Situation Room and local stations like WCAV‑TV and WJLA‑TV in the Washington, DC area. She came to NBC4 in 2017 and co‑anchors News4 Today, the region’s number one morning show. 

Over the years, she has received many awards for her work, including eight Emmy Awards, two Virginia Associated Press Awards, and two Edward R. Murrow Awards. The awards reflect the excellence in her breaking news stories and her commitment to storytelling.

On a personal note, Jummy is married to Darren Sands, a staff writer for The Washington Post; the couple married in June 2017 in Chantilly, Virginia.

In early 2025, she announced she was pregnant, revealing they were expecting a baby girl.
