Maganti Gopinath (first name: Maganti; last name: Gopinath) was born on 2 June 1963, at Hyderguda, Hyderabad, to Krishnamurthy and Mahanand Kumari. He completed his Intermediate in Venkateswara Tutorials and later acquired a degree from a college affiliated with Osmania University.

Family

Gopinath tied the knot to Sunitha, with whom he had three children: one son, M. Vatsalyanath, and two daughters, Akshata Nag and Disira. 

Political Career

Early Involvement

He initiated his political career in 1983, joining the Telugu Desam Party, which was nurtured by Chief Minister N. T. Rama Rao. He was the president of the youth wing Telugu Yuvatha from 1985 to 1992. From 1987, he also took on the role of Hyderabad District President. Further, he served as Director of the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority and a member of the Hyderabad District Consumer Forum.

Legislative Success

In the year 2014, he became an MLA from the Jubilee Hills via the TDP party. Later, he left to join the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and in 2018 saw success again, which resulted in a large-scale victory. In the 2023 Telangana Assembly election, he achieved his third straight win against former cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin, which was by a very large margin of over 80,000 votes and a 16,000 turnout difference.

In the 2023 election affidavit, it was reported that Gopinath’s assets are worth around ₹11.4 crores, which is a drop from the 2018 report, which listed assets of around ₹11.7 crores, and 2014, which had assets of ₹6.2 crores, which shows a steady growth in asset value over the years.

Death

Maganti Gopinath, also known as Maganti Gopinath, died at the age of 62 from a heart attack on June 8, 2025, in Hyderabad. He had been in the hospital for a couple of days before his death, and he also had health-related issues in the past, including a kidney operation.
