Matheesha Pathirana, a rising cricket star from Sri Lanka, was born on December 18, 2002, in Kandy, Sri Lanka. Standing tall at 6 feet 2 inches, he is known for his bowling prowess and is often called "Little Slings." Pathirana made his T20 International debut for Sri Lanka on August 27, 2022, against Afghanistan in Dubai.

Pathirana's cricket journey began in his childhood, playing cricket at home with his father. He later joined Ranabima Royal College and then Trinity College, Kandy, where he honed his cricket skills. Despite his interest in music, including playing the piano and singing, Pathirana focused on cricket and represented Sri Lanka at the under-19 level.

Pathirana's fast-bowling talent was recognized early, and he trained at the Kettarama fast bowling academy under the guidance of Chamila Gamage. His bowling action, often compared to that of Lasith Malinga, earned him the nickname "Baby Malinga." Despite offers to join Colombo schools for cricket, his father chose to keep him close to home.

In 2020, Pathirana represented Sri Lanka in the Under-19 Cricket World Cup. His impressive performance caught the attention of cricket fans worldwide. He has played for various domestic teams, including SLC Greys, Nondescripts Cricket Club, and franchise teams like Chennai Super Kings, Kandy Falcons, Bangla Tigers, and Desert Vipers.

Pathirana's bowling speed also made headlines when he allegedly bowled a delivery at 175kph (108 mph) during a match against India in 2020, although later reports suggested it was due to a technical glitch. He has since become a sought-after player in leagues like the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he played for Chennai Super Kings and gained a reputation for his bowling technique.

Off the field, Pathirana follows Buddhism, and his family is musically inclined. His sisters are accomplished musicians, and his father used to play guitar in a band. Pathirana's dedication to cricket and his impressive bowling skills continue to make him a promising talent in the world of cricket.
