Early Life and Education 

Priyamani was born into a family which spoke Tamil at home to Vasudeva Mani Iyer, an entrepreneur from Palakkad, and Latha Mani Iyer, a former bank manager. She spent her upbringing in Bengaluru with her brother Vishakh, who is also in the plantation business. From a very cultural background, Priyamani is the granddaughter of a famous Carnatic vocalist, Kamala Kailas, the niece of playback singer Malathi Subramaniam (Maludi Shubha), and the cousin of popular actress Vidya Balan. She attended Sri Aurobindo Memorial School and went on to graduate from Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian Law College in Bengaluru, where she took a degree in Psychology via distance study. Priyamani took to modelling as a teenager, which led to ads for Kancheepuram Silks, Erode Silks, and Lakshmi Silks. 

Career Journey
 

Priyamani broke into films with the release of Evare Atagaadu in 2003 (Telugu), then had her Tamil debut in Kangalal Kaidhu Sei (2004) and made it in Malayalam with Satyam (2004). Also, she came into the Kannada film industry with Raam (2009), and for Bollywood, which was new territory to her, she did Raavan (2010), which also had Mani Ratnam as the director. Her breakout came with the critically acclaimed Tamil film Paruthiveeran (2007) in which she played Muthazhagu, which earned her the National Film Award for Best Actress and a Filmfare Award. Also, she did very well in the Malayalam film Thirakkatha (2008), which in turn won her another Filmfare Award. Through the years, Priyamani has proved her versatility by foraying into many languages, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi and starring in commercial hits like Yamadonga (2007) and Raam (2009). 

Television and OTT Presence 
 

In terms of what beyond film work Priyamani has done, she has been a judge in shows like D 4 Dance (Malayalam, 2014), Dancing Star 2 (Kannada, 2015), and Kings of Dance (Tamil, 2016). Also in the OTT space, she is a part of The Family Man, which ran from 2019 to 2021 on Amazon Prime Video, and her role as Suchitra Iyer was very well received.

Priyamani married businessman and event organiser Mustafa Raj on 23rd August 2017 in a private function. Since then, the couple has kept a very low profile, which also includes Priyamani’s dedication to her acting career and brand endorsements.
