Ramya Subramanian Biography

Ramya Subramanian, popularly known as VJ Ramya, is an Indian actress and television host who predominantly works in the Tamil film industry.

Early Life

Ramya hails from Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. She completed her early education at Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan until 10th grade and finished her 11th and 12th at Adarsh Vidyalaya. She later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Visual Communication from M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women, Chennai.

Career

Ramya began her career as a television host and went on to anchor several popular shows on Star Vijay, such as Kalakkapovadhu Yaaru?, Ungalil Yaar Adutha Prabhudeva?, Namma Veetu Kalyanam, and Kedi Boys Killadi Girls. After her marriage, she announced she would reduce her TV appearances and be selective with her work.

In 2007, Ramya made her acting debut with a minor role in the film Mozhi. In 2015, she gained more visibility with her role as Ananya, a friend of Dulquer Salmaan's character, in Mani Ratnam’s O Kadhal Kanmani. The same year, she became an RJ for 92.7 Big FM. She also graced the cover of WE Magazine’s fitness special in August 2019 and hosted numerous events and award shows. Additionally, Ramya is a certified health coach.

Personal Life

Ramya was married to Aparjith Jayaraman in 2014, but the couple separated in 2015.

Other Work and Activities

Ramya is a fitness enthusiast and authored the book Stop Weighting. She runs a YouTube channel called Stay Tuned with Ramya, where she shares fitness tips and routines. Skilled in Bharatanatyam and silambam, she also participated in district and state-level powerlifting competitions, winning several gold and bronze medals. In January 2023, she participated in the Chennai Marathon.
