Age and Early Life

Born on 8 December 1944, Sharmila Tagore is 79 years as of the year 2024. Hailing from a quality Tagore family through which their cultural and artistic contributions to the nation were talked about, Sharmila comes from a great legacy. Her great-grand-uncle was, of course, the great poet, Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. Sharmila was brought up at Kolkata and did her education from St. John's Diocesan Girls' Higher Secondary School and Loreto Convent.

She entered cinema at the tender age of young years and slowly turned out to be one of the best mainstream actrices in Indian cinema.

Family and Personal Life

She married the ex-Indian cricketer and Nawab of Pataudi, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi in 1969. The news on the front pages of newspapers made the couple bright stars because their marriage became one of the most spoken topics on the 1960s. Sharmila converted to Islam after her marriage; she had changed her name to Ayesha Sultana but, within the film circle, the star is still famous by her original name.

Except for these children, Sharmila and Mansoor Ali Khan have three other children that are :

Saif Ali Khan- He is a very popular Bollywood actor.
Saba Ali Khan- A jewellery designer and the caretaker of all the royal heritage of the family
Soha Ali Khan- An activist actress who does films both in Hindi and Bengali.

She comes from a family of siblings, most of whom are heavily entrenched in Bollywood and royalty. She is a loving mother and a doting grandmother since her husband passed away in 2011.

Her children and grandchildren are the people whom she barely spends time without since they are always by her side.

She entered the film world at the tender age of only 13 years with the Bengali film Apur Sansar (1959) directed by the legendary film-maker Satyajit Ray. The film formed part of the classic trilogy of Ray, that is, the Apu Trilogy, and the movie happened to turn into a super hit, marking the beginning of the glorious career of Sharmila.

The initiative was made with Shakti Samanta's Kashmir Ki Kali in 1964, where she began her work in Bollywood as a chirpy girl who didn't bother about anything opposite Shammi Kapoor-a character which instantly became the heartbeat of all Indians. She then continued doing other successful films throughout the 1960s and 1970s, and by then, she was one of the most in-demand heroines.

• "An Evening in Paris" (1967) – The movie had bold themes; Sharmila made her first swimsuit appearance on the Indian silver screen .
• "Chupke Chupke" (1975) – A light-hearted comedy that marked the lead actor of the movie and yet again proved Sharmila's versatility to enact different kinds of characters.
• "Mausam" (1975) – She went ahead and won the National Film Award for Best Actress for the film.
• "Safar" (1970)-Another strong drama where she acts opposite Rajesh Khanna, capturing the depth as an actress emotionally.
