Bollywood Blind Item: Filmmaker Not Interested In Sequel

This filmmaker's debut directorial was a blockbuster. It heralded the rise of a character actor & made him a bankable star. His second movie broke all previous box office records & became a pan-India phenomenon. The sequel to his blockbuster spy thriller is about to release soon. It is a foregone conclusion that the sequel will be a bigger hit than the original movie. There have been news reports of the studio pushing the filmmaker to make a third movie in the franchise. As per sources, these rumors are true. The studio wants the filmmaker to make the third movie in the blockbuster spy thriller franchise & milk the craze for the franchise to the maximum. But the director feels otherwise. He would rather explore other subjects than deliberately extend the story to the 3rd part just for making money off it. He feels that doing something of that sort will ruin the goodwill created for the movie from the two parts. He is in talks with the hero of the spy thriller for a big budget superhero epic based on Hindu mythology.

Studios & filmmakers are often at loggerheads. While studio bosses & their employees are interested primarily in revenues, filmmakers are creative folks who are more inclined in making quality cinema which provides entertainment, value to their audience. The studio isn't completely wrong in asking the filmmaker to milk the success of his franchise. Hollywood has led the way in making billions in revenues from popular comicbook characters. Apart from movies, they also make huge amounts on money from theme parks & rides inspired from their movies. Bollwyood has been trying to do the same, but has met with limited success. On the other hand, the filmmaker too is justified in not agreeing to unecessarily extend the storyline. Many filmmakers have been criticized by fans for ruining their favorite franchises by making movies on half baked ideas.
