Bollywood Blind Items: This Art House Flick Has Been Plagiarized

This superstar divorced his wife sometime back. The ex-wife recently directed a movie which won both - critical & commercial acclaim. The movie's release on a global OTT platform added wings to its popularity. Fans have been raving about its simplicity & social messaging. As per our sources, the movie has been ripped off from a short film directed by a well-known character actor-director from Mumbai of South Indian descent. The movie was available on a free streaming global platform. The filmmaker was either paid off or blackmailed into giving up all rights to the script. All versions of the movie have been erased from free video streaming platforms. The superstar's ex-wife will likely walk away with all the accolades, while there is no record of the filmmaker's contribution anywhere. This is the ugly side of showbiz!

While most of the movies till the 90's were complete rip-offs from Hollywood & regional cinema, plagiarism has gone down drastically. A music director famously took a father-son duo to the courts for plagiarising his tune without his consent. The courts awarded him a settlement worth several crores. Bollywood filmmakers have been unable to plagiarise Hollywood movies thanks to almost all the top studios now having a presence in Bollywood as well. They keep a close watch on the industry. Remaking South Indian movies too is now a thing of the past thanks to several high-profile South Indian filmmakers deciding to simultaneously release the Hindi version of their movies alongside several other languages. Remakes of hit South Indian filmmakers have been failing thanks to the original version being easily available on streaming platforms with subtitles. Looks like Bollywood has now turned to free streaming platforms for "inspiration".
