He gained a cult following for lifting the team to several triumphs & for his unconventional leadership style. He inherited a battered team, but led it to several World Cup victories across formats. There wasn't a single ICC trophy that India did not win under his leadership. Many cricketers, too, have been open in their admiration for him - arguably the best captain ever.
