Guess Who: The Body Weight Contract Clause

Rajeev Masand has published a blind item in Open The Magazine about a director who had inserted a body weight clause in his hero’s contract, for a recently released film.

What was the director drinking, when he signed this actor up? The director, to be fair has directed only two hits till date. All his other films have been flops. It wasn’t like actors were dying to work with him. But signing this overweight, down on luck actor was harakiri. As expected, the movie flopped. The novelty of the movie was that it spoke about maratha pride – something that has already been depicted in a superhit movie which released a few years back. So what did the movie have to offer? Neither a saleable hero & neither novel in its approach.

People have been wondering whether the actor’s MILF GF will stick around, now that his career is almost over. She seems to be unlucky for her men. First her husband & now this actor. Both saw their careers do south after she entered their lives. We think it can’t be just her. It has been years that she separated from her ex-husband, but his career is still going nowhere. Her actor-BF too wasn’t exactly a acting powerhouse. He totally lost count of his calories, while his GF religiously worked out daily. Looks like the actor lost interest in his career & is now paying for it.

Blind Item

Rumour goes that the director-producer of a recent film had a clause included in his contract with the leading man of his film that the filmmaker had the right to forfeit a percentage of the actor’s fee if he didn’t hit an agreed upon body weight before shooting on the project commenced.

It’s a fairly standard practice in Hollywood, but here in Bollywood, which is still mostly a ‘relationship driven’ industry simply because of its comparatively intimate size, such clauses can be awkward. According to the grapevine, the filmmaker did in fact enforce the clause when it was clear that the actor had not reached the agreed weight. It reportedly became a cause of great friction between the two, but both put up a professional front and fake-smiled their way while promoting the film together.
