How the Match Between SL and AFG Turned Into a Nail-Biting Contest in the Asia Cup 2023

In the Asia Cup 2023, the match between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan was a real stunner. It will not be wrong if you consider it the greatest match of all time in the history of the Asia Cup. The match was very dramatic and full of excitement because of the way it happened. After a lot of nail biting moments, at the end Sri Lanka from no where managed to win the match.

In the match, Sri Lanka batted first on the flat track of the iconic cricket stadium in Lahore, Pakistan, and their opening batsmen started nicely for the team; they threaded a good opening stand for the team and set the platform for the other players to put a big target for the opposition. But in the middle of the inning, Sri Lanka lost quick wickets, but their most dependable batter, Kusal Mendis, took the charge for his side, and with the handy knocks of their bowlers, the team managed to add a good total for the Afghan team.

In answer to the huge target steeled by the opposition team, Afghanistan lost both their openers early in the inning, then the partnership between their two key batters, Hashmatullah Shahidi and Rahmat Shah, got them back on track, but then came the game-changing inning of Mohammad Nabi, who scored 65 in just 32 balls, which was the turing point of the match till that moment. From that stage, the win for Afghanistan was looking very easy, and this was the point where all the drama started happening as both the settle batsmen went back. Suddenly,  the game that was looking very easy for the Afghan team to win became very difficult.

Again, the firey knock of Rashid Khan turned the game back to his side. The win was looking almost confirmed for the Afghan team, but the real drama started when Rashid Khan remained not out on the other end, and Afghanistan lost the match by just a margin of 2 runs as only three runs were needed with two wickets in hand. This match between SL and AFG was really a nail-biting encounter, and some cricket experts and former cricketers give it the title of the most dramatic game in the history of the Asia Cup.
