In the Indian Army's eyes, nothing can rival the other forces in terms of reputation and discipline, plus the army will also coerce one to serve the nation in several ways. One of the numerous positions available is the Soldier Clerk (General Duty/Store Keeper Technical), which is the one most asked for by the applicants. Through recruitment rallies in different parts of India, the Indian Army Clerk Examination is held regularly, and it provides a chance to the young aspirants to enlist in the force.

Clerk Indian Army Recruitment Application Process

Clerk recruitment is done through open rallies only, and these rallies are organized by various Branch Recruiting Offices (BROs) and Zonal Recruiting Offices (ZROs). Interested candidates are required to check with their nearest recruiting office for the rally schedule, which is also published in local newspapers and Employment News.

On the day of the rally, the candidates are required to report at the venue along with their educational certificates, birth certificate, domicile certificate, character certificate, and six recent passport-sized photographs.

Eligibility Criteria

Nationality: Only unmarried male Indian citizens, including those from Nepal, are eligible.

Age Limit: Candidates must be between 17.5 and 23 years of age.

Educational Qualification:

Applicants must have passed 10+2 (Intermediate) in any stream—Arts, Commerce, or Science—with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks and at least 40% in each subject. However, candidates with higher educational qualifications are exempted from the percentage criteria.

Physical Standards

Physical requirements vary by region due to geographical differences. Generally, the minimum height ranges from 160 cm to 170 cm, the weight between 48–50 kg, and chest expansion up to 77 cm.

Special relaxations are available for Ladakhis, Gorkhas, tribals, and island settlers. Candidates must refer to their regional recruitment notification for exact standards.

Medical Requirements

A candidate must have a strong physique and good mental health. Vision must be 6/6 in both eyes, and color vision should be CP-III (able to distinguish red and green). The candidate must possess good gums, a minimum of 14 dental points, and no chronic diseases such as piles, hydrocele, or deformity of bones.

Physical Fitness Test (PFT)

The PFT is a test that measures stamina and readiness for the physical part of the process. It comprises the following activities:

1 Mile Run: This is a timed test with a maximum score of 60 points for completing it in under 5:40 minutes.

Pull-ups: 40 points are the maximum for 10 or more.

Balance & 9-Foot Ditch: Non-graded qualifying tests.

Written Examination Pattern

The selected candidates are then invited to appear for the Common Entrance Examination (CEE), which takes place on the last Sunday of every month.

Paper I: General test on IQ, Numerical Ability, General Knowledge, and Current Affairs.

Duration: 60 minutes

Marks: 100

Qualifying Marks: 32

Paper II: A subject specific paper for Clerks/Store Keepers (Mathematics, Computer Science, and English).

Duration: 30 minutes

Marks: 50

Qualifying Marks: 26

Both papers must be passed to be selected.
