10 Best Indian Documentaries in the Last 10 Years

Are you a documentary fan? Well documentaries are a narrative approach to explore various styles of story telling. Indian documentaries have their own way to tell the story. Today, I wil be talking about some of the best documentaries in India. 

1. QISSA-E-PARSI (2014) 

This story has a Parsi family. It is an exploration of the community and political exclusion. Whichever be the field like business, art, music, theatre etc. the community can't be verlooked anywhere. The film also own awards like National Film Award for Best Anthropological/Ethnographic Film for the year 2014. 

2. AMDAVAD MA FAMOUS (2015) 

The documentary highlights the hypnotic habits related to the game of kite flying. You can watch the film on Netflix. It shows the struggle for the biggest kite flying festival in India. 

3. STEEPED AND STIRRED (2015)  

Its a great approach to take up cuisines when India has such a rich food heritage. It is a story that shows the history and importance of tea in our culture. You will understand why more than 70 per cent of the Indians love tea.

4. MATITALI KUSTI (2016)

It is a short black and white documentary based on westlers. It shows the struggle of traditional pehelwans and their fight against the freestyle westlers. The maker is a great storyteller ans has very much to say. 

5. THE UNRESERVED (2017)  

The story touched me deeply. It shows the lives of passengers who use the unreserved compartment for travellling. It is the cheapest way of traveling in Indian Railways. You will start forming bonds with the story as the presentation is superb. 

6. TUNGRUS (2018)

 It is a very creative subject. It tells us why we need to tame our pets and have a relationship with them. It has various emotions, affection, loyalty and much more. The documentary has got various awards.


7. THE SOCCER CITY (2018)

It is short documetary which shows how a game which is played bare foot drew more than 25000 spectators for its local games. It shows passon for football. If you are a football lover you must watch this story. It has won pretigious awards. 



8. AUNTY SUDHA AUNTY RADHA (2019)

The documentary was planned to be heavy and sound whereas it is subtle and elementary. It shows the lives of two women from village. You will see the relationship between women and thier day to day cores. 

9. LOVELY VILLA (2019)

It is a story that shows the relationhip between architecture and identity and how the space we use affects the world and plalces. It has some deep thoughts. The documentary has some real life incidents. 

10. THE FLOWERS AND THE GEMSTONES (2019)

It is a Tamil documentary. It is a poetic depiction of craftmenship in garland and explores vegetations, landscapes etc.
