There is always a confusion whether tomato is a fruit or a vegetable. So, tomato is a berry that grows on Solanum lycopersicum which are commonly called tomato plants. In India, tomato is used as a vegetable in various salads and cuisines. The tomato plant is a native of South America but they are grown throughout the world.

Tomatoes require warm and bright weather to grow. They can’t survive in high humidity and need a constant temperature of 12 to 24 C.

The ideal soil required for tomato plant is loamy soil which is 6.0 – 7.0 in Ph. The well drained and loosely packed soil suits them the best.

The plant also require 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight which helps them to grow well.

The Best season to grow tomatoes in India is the warm climate. They are usually planted in March and April in India and the perfect time to harvest the plants are the late summers. The tomatoes are generally high in demand so farmers grow tomatoes throughout the year using different techniques. Appropriate supply of water is required for the plants to make the roots stronger.
