Deepika Padukone graced up the red carpet with elegance at the Cannes 202 opening evening. She wore a stunning retro sequin saree in black and gold work and on point makeup. She talked about making a cut and being invited as a jury member. She was looking mesmerising and powerful as she was representing India on stage. 

Here is what Deepika had to say on being a representative of India on a global stage, "It's such a huge honour. It's not something that our country has seen very often. So when we are given the opportunity, we should take it with a lot of humility & gratitude". 

Many Indians have been a part of Cannes like Mrinal SenMira Nair, Arundhati Roy, Nandita Das, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sharmila Tagore and Shekhar Kapur. The last was Vidya Balan in 2013. And this year not just Deepika but many other Indians made it to Cannes 2022 like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Pooja Hegde, Nayanthara, Urvashi Rautela, R Madhavan, Hina Khan, Helly Shah, AR Rahman, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Tamanna Bhatia, Ricky Kej, Shekhar Kapoor, Prasoon Joshi, Vani Tripathi and Mame Khan. 

India has also been announced as the ‘country of honour’ at the Marche’ Du Films, also called Cannes Film Market. India has been one of the first countries to be chosen for such an honour.
