This movie was made by Pankaj Advani in the year 2000 and got banned by the censor board because of its bold scenes and language.
2. Paanch
This movie by Anurag Kashyap was banned by the censor board because it showed too much violence, and contained a lot of foul languages. The movie was based on the story of the Joshi-Abhyankar serial murders.
3. Parzania
This movie was released in the year 2005 and it was based on the dark past of the state of Gujarat. It showed the story of a boy going missing during the riots in Gujarat in the year 2002. The film did win a National Award, But it was strictly banned in Gujarat for political reasons.
4. Water
A movie by Deepa Mehta that focused on the ridiculous norms that are supposed to be followed by an Indian widow and their entire lives. Issues like misogyny and ostracism created controversies for the film, which is why it was banned.
5. Gandu
A movie from the year 2010, Gandu was made in a black and white format. It was actually a Bengali movie that revolved around rap culture. The movie was banned because of the nudity that was shown on-screen, plus its oral sex scenes.
6. Dazed in Doon
Doon School being one of the most prestigious educational institutions in the country, did not find this movie the least bit entertaining, which showed the story of a student enrolled in the school and his life there. The school was extremely disappointed with the movie and blamed it for ruining the school's image.
7. Unfreedom
this is one of the most recent Bollywood movies to be banned. made in the year 2015, Unfreedom was based on the lives of two lesbian lovers and also included Islamic-terrorism insights. The censor board was obviously not able to handle two such sensitive topics being portrayed in a single movie and was also disturbed by the love-making scenes between the lesbian couple.
8. Firaaq
This movie revolved around the Gujarat riots too and was banned because it apparently hurt the sentiments of both Muslims and Hindus. However, the movie was releaed eventually, and it did receive good response from the audience.
9. Sins
A movie that showed the story of a priest's lust for a woman, Sins was made in the year 2005. The movie hurt the sentiments of the Catholic section of the society, along with the censor board's issue with its bold scenes, and thus, was banned.
10. Black Friday
This movie was somewhat adapted from S Hussain Zaidi's book - The True Story of the Bombay Bomb Blasts. It was considered to be too dark for the Indian audience and hence was never released.
