Though India is known as the Land of Spices but India is also the second largest producer of fruits in the world. From the ranges of Himalayas to the tropical India, India has a lot to offer. Major fruits like banana, mango and citrus varieties grow in abundance in many parts of the country and there are many rare minor fruits that are collected from the wild and eaten mostly by the locals.

  1. Bael (Wood Apple)

This is an extremely unique fruit which are found in the parts of Himalayas, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

  1. Karonda (Carandas Cherry)

These are rich in nutrients and pink coloured tiny fruit. They are a great replacement of blueberries and mostly grown in Bihar, West Bengal and Western Ghats.

  1. Buddha’s Hand (Fingered Citron)

These are mostly found in North-eastern India. It is a stunning fruit. The Buddha’s hand looks like a lumpy lemon with elongated, yellow tentacles protruding from the base. It is wonderfully aromatic.

  1. Langsah/ Lotka (Langsat)

These are grown throughout eastern and southern India especially in the Nilgiri Hills. It is a small, translucent, orb- shaped fruit. They are quite sour when unripe but are perfectly sweet when ripe.

  1. Mangustaan (Mangosteen)

These are grown in the Nilgiri Hills, the southern districts of Tirunelvely and Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu and Kerela. A fragrant tropical fruit about the size of a small orange.
