Bal Thackeray Backed Sanjay Dutt During His Release

In 2018, when Sanjay Dutt’s biopic, ‘Sanju’ was released, it did not mention the role of the late Babasaheb Thackeray in getting the actor’s bail in 1995. The reason behind this was that Babasaheb Thackeray believed the actor to be suffering unnecessarily.  Until the politician’s death in 2012, Sanjay Dutt would frequently visit him at his home.

Thackeray had also called the Congress Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao for getting the actor out of jail. Soon, the panel had recommended for the actor’s bail and charges against him were dropped. The actor and his family had publicly thanked him for their steps.

In an interview with Rajeev Shukla in June 20, 2017, Bal Thackeray declares that any member of the Dut family cannot be an anti-national.
