Bawaal Review

The movie Bawaal starring Varun Dhawan (Aju) and Janhvi Kapoor (Nisha) in lead roles went on air on 21 July 2023 on Amazon Prime Videos. Along with the leads, the film also stars Manoj Pahwa (Aju's father), Anjuman Saxena (Aju's mother), Prateek Pachauri  (Aju's friend), Mukesh Tiwari (high-profile person of the area) and other. The film is directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and Ashwiny lyer Tiwari.

I was super excited to watch this fresh on-screen couple of Varun and Janhvi. They had shared a few posts on their social media accounts together and that had given us hopes. Talking about the story, it is of a small-town boy, Aju, who is a teacher in a school and doesn't like his job at all nor does he take it seriously. He is always worried and concerned about the image which he had built over time that is of a well-known, decent family man. He then gets married to Nisha, who has the issue of Epilepsy but as he is too concerned of his image he never accepts her because of her disease and never adresses her as his wife. Then an incident happens in his life which brings him to the idea of doing a 'Bawaal'.

I liked the way how the story was written and executed, they did a great job in mixing humours with a serious message for the audience. Varun is very bad in comedy and he has kept it throught in this film as well. Prateek was a strong supporting character as Aju's friend and part of most of the fun elements. The movie showed many messages like how the  clothes we wear aren't what we are! Relationships and people around us are very important in our lives. Manoj Pahwa is always fun to watch on-screen, and in this film he played the role of Aju's father and he was outstanding, I would say him to be my favourite character. Janhvi as Nisha had a challenging role to potray and she did it really well. Also the film gives great knowledge and facts about World War II. I was dissapointed with the music and song of the film as only one song got my attention that too not for long.

I would rate this film a 3.5/5.
