A lot of celebrities clapped at 5 pm on 22nd March to show their support towards our Prime Minister’s statement. On 19th March, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the entire nation to talk about the coronavirus outbreak, he mentioned a lot of things on the topic. Talking about the pandemic, that has claimed over 9000 lives globally, Modi mentioned how it is the need of the hour to stay aware and alert.

He requested us to be vigilant and practise restraint; he talked about how the government is trying its best to tackle the situation. As a resolve, the one thing apart from staying indoors that he suggested the public to do was laud the medics for their services.

Initiating a Janata Curfew on public on 22nd March, Sunday, Modi asked everyone to get to their balconies on Sunday at 5 pm and clap their hands for the exceptional service that the medical staffs all over the country and globe have been lending to the fight against coronavirus. This act seemed kind of weird to most of us when suggested, but was surprisingly an eye-opener for every one of us.

The Janata Curfew turned out to be successful and another high point of the day was when people were asked to stand near windows and on balconies or terrace to clap for the heroes of our country turned out to be super successful. Not just the common people, the celebrities too participated in the act with full enthusiasm and positivity. Many went live on social media to show how they are cheering for the heroes of the nation.

Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Kangana Ranaut, Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Ayushmann Khuranna, Kapil Sharma, Dia Mirza, Neha Dhupia, Angad Bedi, Varun Dhawan, Katrina Kaif, Kriti Sanon, Nupur Sanon, Isha Deol, Hema Malini and host of other celebrities clapped and cheered for coronavirus warriors from their balconies and terrace during Janata Curfew on 22nd March.

Akshay Kumar shared a video on Instagram and wrote, ‘5 minutes at 5 pm: with my neighbours, taking a moment to appreciate those who do not have the luxury of staying at home and working tirelessly to keep us safe. Thank you to all the essential service providers for all your selfless work.

Amitabh Bachchan shared the scenario from outside his house on Instagram and wrote, ‘Historic… we are ONE  … and we have WON!!’ Abhishek Bachchan at 5 pm on March 22nd the nation came out and applauded NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS! PROUD TO BE AN INDIAN – JAI HIND.’

Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh were seen twinning in white and stepping out on the balcony of their south Mumbai home and cheering and hooting for their heroes. Varun Dhawan wrote, ‘JANATA CURFEW we will have to do this for longer. Everyone who is my age please keep your parents safe. I applaud the heroes fighting this virus.’

Karan Johar captioned his video, ‘That’s our family celebrating the unity of spirit and resilience …today we also show tremendous gratitude to all members of the medical fraternity who have tirelessly and relentlessly worked towards healing the affected and protecting thousands of people from this dreaded virus.

Boney Kapoor tweeted, ‘Big thank you to the unseen protectors of all of us – doctors, nurses, hospital staff, municipal workers, police, government officials and media. We stay protected because of you.

Vicky Kaushal shared his video on Instagram and captioned it as, ‘From us to all the real heroes – the medics, doctors, nurses, volunteers, police, the government and everyone who is being responsible and staying back home ensuring the safety of themselves, their families and others …we are in it together – stronger and healthier.

Kangana Ranaut was also seen clapping along with Sister Rangoli Chandel. Rangoli shared the video and captioned it as, ‘here we are expressing our gratitude for all the people who are staying outside of their houses so we can stay inside our houses, may Maa Sherawali protect us all.
