Do You Know Hichki Was Initially Written For A Male Actor?

 
Rani Mukerji starrer film Hichki, was originally made for a male actor as the lead.
 
The 2018 Bollywood movie Hichki, became a big worldwide hit when it was released, marking as a new start for Rani Mukerji's career. This movie was made by Siddharth P. Malhotra did incredibly good in the box office of China, it eventually surpassed India's box office. 

 

During an interview, the director said that everyone has said that he was crazy for thinking of a movie like this with such a uniqeue topic, and initially when he wanted to made the movie Hichki, he wanted a male actor to play the major role.

 

Everyone initially have doubts about Hichki, but why?
Siddharth P. Malhotra started his career in 2010 in direction of his debut film We Are Family, and was interested in pursuing solely Hichki. Siddharth said, "Everyone told me that I am crazy for making this non-commercial film with a teacher who has Tourette's Syndrome, and also with no romance angle, and a hero." 

 

But Siddharth was determined to make this movie, he insisted that the movie will be a commercial even though others informed him it was an art picture. Director recalled working for almost five years before he got Aditya Chopra to hear him narrate. And Aditya’s response, "You're gonna make this movie." Change it from a male lead to female lead, please.” And after that for Siddharth, there was no turning back.

 

The film was based on the book Front of the Class and the movie Rani Mukerji's Bollywood comeback.
And recently in 2024, which is six years later, Aditya Chopra supports Siddharth's film Maharaj, which is currently trending on Netflix. Maharaj is basically a historical drama, which is also the debut of Aamir Khan's son Junaid Khan. The movie is based on the Maharaj Libel Case of 1862 and also casts Sharvari, Shalini Pandey, and Jaideep Ahlawat. Junaid is receiving appreciation for his decision to make an unusual debut through OTT. Maharaj is currently streaming on Netflix, the movie is a product of the streaming service's partnership with the YRF.
