Filmfare Awards Takes Steps In The Right Direction. Is Back To Being Respectable

Filmfare was one of the most pretigeous awards in the 70s and 80s but soon it started losing the status when commercial films like DDLJ, Kaho Na Pyaar Hai actors started getting awarded as best actors and actresses. There was a time when Filmfare awards where no less then the Oscar in India. What made it worse was when the Pan Masala and Gutka companies started sponsoring the events of the award.

Oscar is the most pretigeous award in the world, even getting nominated for awards here is a big deal and people do mention being nominated or winning the award while introducing themselves. But filmfare had become a joke for the audience, big star like Amitabh Bachchan has recieved the award only thrice in his career.

But now Filmfare taking steps towards the right direction and making the required changes to get the respect back, like this time Rajkummar Rao was awarded as the best actor for Badhai Do though the movie didn't do that good in the box office, his performance was great. The little changes made by Filmfare needs to be appreciated so that it earns the respect back soon.

Also the award functions should be same for all languages instead of having seperate events for all industries as filmmakers are no more making film for any particular market. This will ensure uniformity in for the awards and increase the value. Won't it be unfair to not include RRR, KGF2, Pushpa in the nominees list in spite of them making huge monies from Hindi audiences?

Lastly, we are thankful that they have got rid of their Gutka and Pan Masala sponsor. There little steps towards improvement has a huge capacity to bring them goodwill and status in the industry. They might soon get the 90s name back when Filmfare was compared with Oscar in India.
