Interesting Facts About British-Indian Singer Jay Sean

Many of you know the British-Indian singer, Jay Sean for his songs ‘Dance With You’, ‘Ride It’ and ‘Down’ but do you know what the noughties singer is up to now?

Jay Sean technically began his music career aged 11. Sean and his cousin formed a hip hop group called "Compulsive Disorder", and this was his unofficial introduction to making music. Jay’s name first emerged in the UK Asian underground scene when he released music with the producer Rishi Rich through the group Rishi Rich project, which also saw artists like Juggy D emerge.

Jay Sean’s contribution has been hugely significant as he was one of the first artists to pioneer the fusion of bhangra and r&b. Jay Sean never stopped making music, you just became less aware of it! 2003-2009 were definitely Jay Sean’s most exciting years in terms of releasing music, but he’s continued to release fantastic music ever since.

In 2019, Jay Sean signed a new record deal with Republic Records and released a great single called “With You” featuring Gucci Mane & Asian Doll. This was the first of many great singles in his more recent music career. His latest single ‘Incomplete’ came out in February, and he’s also worked with huge names such as Sean Paul, Lupe Fiasco, Busta Rhymes and Lil Wayne.

The 2007 song ‘Ride It’ by Jay Sean went viral on Tik Tok and Jay Sean saw it as his calling to join the app. He was overwhelmed by the response and new love for the song, and it encouraged him to start making his own Tik Tok content. Jay Sean has a whopping 342,300 followers on the app and goes by the name @therealjaysean. 

Jay Sean got married to his wife Thara Prashad in 2009, and the pair currently reside in Weehawken in New Jersey.
