Is Jio Cinema The New King Of Indian OTT?

The OTT space in India is a very competitive one now. We all know that by now right?

On one hand American MNC giants like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney Hotstar, Sony Liv and, on the other hand we have our home grown players like MXplayer, AltBalaji, and Eros and hen there are platforms like Airtel xstream and Vi . But sadly the home grown players have all failed to take on the American platforms.

But the champ Jio Cinema seems to be giving hard time to the other platforms. After snatching HBO's library & IPL from Disney Hotstar, they have two hits as well Asur Season 2 and Inspector Avinash. Bloody Daddy starring Shahid Kapoor is also soon going to be available on the platform and there is a good lineup of movies produced by Jio Studios ensureing that they will have exclusive content.

Mukesh Ambani's deep pockets gives them the support to take on the American giants. Netflix is still largely an English content player but charges a premium, Amazon Prime Video has a lot of good Indian content, Sony LIV too has a good content library, but it was Disney Hotstar which was the king of the OTT space before Jio Cinema took over. Do you know how they didi so? IPL on Jio Cinema was free to view and it got them record viewership. Now with good shows & movies they have signalled that they are here to stay.

Talking about MXplayer, it is being sold to Amazon Prime & AltBalaji is also not doing well. Eros has low subscriber & viewer base and was never a top player in OTT space. While talking about OTTs we can't forget Zee5 and Sony LIV as they also have some hit web series & movies in their library but are not as popular as Disney Hotstar, Amazon Prime Video & Netflix. Netflix is a clear favorite among the premium audiences. Which is your favourite platform?
