‘Jaane Jaan’ Ending, Explained: Did Naren Save Maya From Being Convicted Of Murder?

Netflix's Jaane Jaan is based on The Devotion of Suspect X and follows Naren, a math teacher who practises Jiu Jitsu and has feelings for his next-door neighbour, Maya D'Souza. Ajit, Maya's ex-husband, arrives at her house one fateful day, begging for cash and attempting to get Tara into the pub dancing industry. Maya becomes terrified because she doesn't want Tara to go through what she has because of Ajit and the mother and daughter tag-team him to death. After learning about everything, Naren resolves to assist Maya and Tara in destroying all the evidence. Naren assists Maya and Tara in navigating these turbulent waters till they are in the clear before helping Karan, the investigating officer looking for Ajit and Naren's college mate, arrives at the scene.
Did Naren prevent Maya from getting a murder conviction?
Naren provides a rather complex and fictitious justification for killing Ajit. Essentially, it comes down to this: Maya's interactions with Tara were taken by Naren as subliminal cues to murder Ajit. Naren discovered that Ajit had mistreated Maya. He eventually found Ajit, killed him, and set the body on fire. But he believes Maya tricked him into carrying out this murder. He wants Karan to detain Maya as a result of her manipulation of him. We are aware that is not the real story, though.
Naren actually killed a homeless guy and made it look like Ajit's death in an effort to confuse the police and Karan so that he could fabricate every possible defence for Maya and Tara. Where is the real body of Ajit? That is unimportant. He has passed away. He is unimportant. What matters is that, in a perfect world, "Suspect X" would not have been and the police would have been on a never-ending manhunt. However, after finding out that Maya doesn't really appreciate him, Naren makes the decision to pose as "Suspect X" and spend the rest of his life in jail while attempting to solve various math puzzles.
Maya learns at the conclusion of Jaane Jaan that she is the reason Naren didn't hang himself. Naren put down the noose and gave himself another chance to live after she knocked on his door to ask for the plumber's number. He made a mistake by equating Maya with the idea of living a life. Naren, though, seemed content that he only needs to concentrate on maths based on the satisfied expression on his face. The Devotion of Suspect X is greatly divergent from this.
