In the 2017-18 season of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Mayank Markande made his Twenty20 cricket debut for Punjab, scoring 4 runs per over at an average of 5.25. Kumar's List A debut came in 2017-18, playing for Haryana against Delhi during the Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he bowled two overs, conceded 37 runs and took two wickets.

His starting point was the Deodhar Trophy in 2018-19. In that tournament he scored 68 runs, took his first five-wicket haul and became Punjab's leading wicket-taker with a total of 29 wickets in six matches.

In December 2018, he was selected in the Indian squad for the 2018 ACC Emerging Team Asia Cup and won his T20I cap against Australia in February 2019.
