Last week, Pathaan became the highest-grossing film in the traditional group of global markets. It is presently Bollywood's highest-grossing film in all four main overseas markets. North America, the Gulf, the United Kingdom, and Australia are Bollywood's four biggest international markets. These are the ones that routinely gross more than $1 million and account for about 80-90 percent of total film international gross today. There was a fifth, Pakistan, which was rising as a major market, but it has been off-limits to Bollywood films since 2019 due to geopolitical concerns. Needless to say, Pathaan would have been the highest earner there as well, with almost $5 million.
The film earned the title in Australia last week, the United Kingdom on Friday, and the final two territories, North America and the Gulf, yesterday. Before Pathaan, the top films in each of these markets were quite different, as each market behaves differently and has a different level of maturity. The Shah Rukh Khan-starrer has now topped all four markets; the last time this happened was for Dhoom 3 in 2013.
The top earners in each of the four major international marketplaces are as follows:
Canada - United States
Pathaan is worth $13.50 million (11 days)
Dangal is worth $12.37 million.
Padmaavat grossed $12.16 million.
$10.57 million P.K.
$8.13 million - Bajrangi Bhaijaan
GCC - UAE
Pathaan is worth $9.60 million (11 days)
$9.45 million - Bajrangi Bhaijaan
$8.80 million for Dangal
Sultan has a net worth of $8.60 million.
Dilwale is worth $8.45 million.
The United Kingdom
Pathaan is worth £3.10 million (11 days)
Dhoom 3 costs £2.71 million.
£2.66 million - Bajrangi Bhaijaan
£2.63 million for My Name Is Khan
£2.56 million for Dangal
Australia
Pathaan is worth $3.90 million (11 days)
Padmaavat - 3.16 million Australian dollars
A$2.63 million for Dangal
A$2.41 million for Sanju
$2.11 million P.K.
Pathaan will establish new benchmarks.
In total gross, all four markets will see some new standards. The United Kingdom saw the first £3 million grosser, and it is expected to surpass £4 million as well. Australia will cross the A$4 million mark today and may go on to cross the A$5 million mark. North America will see the first $15 million+ grosser, although $20 million is likely to be a miss. Last but not least, Gulf will break the $10 million barrier for the first time. Actually, it may exceed $15 million, but that includes Saudi Arabia, a new market that entered only a few years ago. In the future, records will include this one, but for now, it is best to ignore it.
