Real Life Characters On Which Netflix's Scoop Is Inspired From

Netflix's Scoop directed by Hansal Mehta has received rave reviews from audiences & critics alike. Netflix has traditionally been struggling when it comes to Indian content. But with Scoop they seem to have got the formula right. Their bet on talented Bollywood filmmaker, who recently directed the superhit web series Scam 1992 paid off.

The show is based on Jigna Vora's Book - Behind Bars In Byculla: My Days In Prison

Here are the real-life characters whom we think the show is inspired from

1. Jagruti Pathak - Jigna Vora

The show's protagonist Jagruti Pathak played by Karishma Tanna, is clearly inspired by Jigna Vora - who was accused of the murder of crime journalist J. Dey. Jigna Vora was a crime journalist who used to work for 'The Asian Age'. She quickly rose to become the deputy editor-in-chief in just 7 years. She is now a tarot card reader & an author. The J,Dey case finished her journalism career

2. JCP Shroff - Himanshu Roy

JCP Shroff played by Harman Baweja seems to be inspired by the late JCP Himanshu Roy. Like Himanshu Roy, JCP Shroff too is shown to be a fitness freak. JCP Himanshu Roy died of cancer - this too is shown in the show. What is known to very few is that JCP Shroff is shown to be flirt with Jagruti Pathak, sometimes bordering on the lines of sexual harassment. It's not known whether Himanshu Roy too used to flirt with Jigna Vora

2. Jaideb Sen - J. Dey

Jaideb Sen's character played by Prosenjit Chatterjee is clearly inspired by the life of crime journalist J. Dey. He was gunned down by unknown assailants near his home in Powai. This has been shown in the show as well. Media ran stories about an affair with Jigna Vora post his death.

3. Imtiaz - S. Hussain Zaidi

Jagruti's boss - Imtiaz was played by Mohammed Zeeshan Ayub in the show. His character is inspired from S. Hussain Zaidi who has authored several books on the Mumbai mafia, including Dongri to Dubai. He was the resident editor-in-chief when Jigna Vora was a crime reporter for their newspaper. His wife is named Nelly in the show. Zaidi's wife's name is Velly Thevar.

4. ACP Mallik - Rakesh Maria

ACP Mallik is probably inspired by Rakesh Maria - a once celebrated Mumbai cop who was relegated to a punishment posting as DCP Home Guards thanks to him not toeing the then CM Devendra Fadnavis's line. As per the show, ACP Mallik had links to Dawood Ibrahim despite a perception of him hating the don. It is not known who his boss -Acharya is inspired from.

5. Rambha Maa - Jaya Chheda

Rambha Maa played by Tejaswini Kolhapure is inspired from Mata King Suresh Bhagat's wife - Jaya Chheda. Jaya Chheda was jailed for the murder of her husband. She conspired to kill her husband with the help of her young lover & son. The show does throw some light on Jaya Chheda. Not much was known about Jaya Chheda earlier

6. Sharda Maa - Sadhvi Pragya Thakur

Shikha Talsania plays the role of Sharda Maa in the show - a character clearly inspired by Sadhvi Pragya Thakur. Sadhvi Pragya Thakur & Jigna Vora were jailed at the same time & are rumored to have gotten close.
