Shubh Mangal Savdhan Review
The hit pair of Dum Laga Ke Haisha is back again, fresh off the success of their recently released movies. The makers have tried to cash off the brand appeal Vicky Donor & have cast the lead actor of that movie. The collections which were low on Friday are expected to pick up pace over the weekend. The movie deals with the sensitive topic of erectile dysfunction & the apathy of the men who face this issue. One must commend Ayushmann Khurana for taking up the role of a someone with a “gents problem”. It is hard to believe that the actress of Dum Laga Ke Haisha is capable of looking so beautiful! You can’t help but admire Bhumi for getting into the skin of the character in all her movies.
The biggest strength of the movie is its one liners. The writers need to be commended for adding several funny one liners. The supporting cast of rather unknown faces does an excellent job of delivering those one liners, which end up making you rolling with laughter. The first half is funny & thoroughly enjoyable. My date loved the subtle romance portrayed between the lead pair.
As much as we loved the first half, the second half felt under developed. The plot comes across as wafer thin in the second half. Post the first 15-20 mins & barring a few scenes the second half feels stretched. The plot have several loopholes. How did the ex-gf suddenly land up in Haridwar? When the hero did not have an ED problem earlier, why did he get so perturbed? Why did he get so affected just because it happened once?
The sad part is that what could have been an excellent movie, is reduced to an average fare. Is it better than Vicky Donor? Not even close.
