Warning Issued Against Amazon’s ‘Tandav’

Directed by Ali Abbas Zaffar, Tandav is a Hindi political drama which was released on January 15, on Amazon Prime Video. Within a day or two of its release, the web series faces criminal action. The complaint was filed by the Uttar Pradesh police station, against the makers of the series and the streaming service. The issue involved was the alleged insult to the Hindu gods.

Before the filing of this recent case, a BJP MLA of Maharashtra, Ram Kadam, had already issued a complaint against the series. This complaint led to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Information to sought a response from Amazon Prime.

In this case, the directors, producers, writers and Amazon’s head of India Original Content are considered to be the accused for promoting religious enmity and defiling a place of worship. It was filed at Lucknow’s Hazratgunj police station by their own sub-inspector. The copy of the complaint was shared by Shalabh Mani Tripathi, media adviser of Yogi Adityanath.
