When Raveena Tandon Asked Rekha to Keep Her Hands off Akshay Kumar

Raveena Tandon set the screen ablaze with her sultry Tip Tip Barsa Pani act. And while all the men were losing their hearts to her, Raveena had lost hers to Akshay Kumar. Speculation was rife that sparks flew between them during the making of their 1994 film Mohra, but the two only started dating in early 1995.

Raveena and Akshay were so madly in love that they reportedly decided to take it to the next level and get married. She revealed in an interview in 1999 that they got secretly engaged in a temple. However, it was all kept hush-hush because he did not want to lose his female fan following. It was all hunky-dory, until their 1996 film Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi happened. Stories of Akshay Kumar's growing proximity with Rekha during the film's shooting spread like wildfire. But in Raveena's eyes, Akshay had done no wrong, and it was Rekha who was trying to get too close for comfort.

"I don't think Akshay ever had anything to do with Rekha. As a matter of fact, he would run away from her. Akshay tolerated Rekha because of the film. At one point she wanted to get lunch dabbas for him from home. That's when I put my foot down. I felt it was taking things a bit too far," she had told in an interview. Raveena said in another interview with that she would not hesitate to show Rekha where to draw the line, if need be. "If this actress knows that we are together yet gets too close to Akshay, I will get my claws into her. But Akshay knows how to handle the situation I guess," she said.

However, their relationship was not meant to be. By the time reports of Akshay's budding romance with Shilpa Shetty started doing the rounds, Raveena had had enough. She spilled the beans on their soured relationship in a sensational interview in 1999, where she emphasised that while loyalty was extremely important to her, that was not the case with Akshay. Apparently, Bollywood's Khiladi was also engaged to two other women while being engaged to her. Raveena did not blame anyone else for her own lover's infidelity and said that Akshay proposes to every girl.

Now, Raveena is happily married to Anil Thadani, while Akshay is enjoying marital bliss with Twinkle Khanna. There is no longer any bad blood between them and Akshay praised his former flame at a song launch earlier this year. "It was a great honour working with her. We have done so many films together," he said.
