BookMyShow is the largest integrated online ticketing platform for movies and events in India. This will hold true considering that the website operates in the sale of tickets to movies, plays, concerts, and sporting events through the online map. It started in 2007 and is based in Mumbai, Maharashtra. They also have offices located in New Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai and Kolkata.
Early history
BookMyShow was launched by Ashish Hemrajani Parikshit Dar along with Rajesh Balpande, all the three are from the Sydenham Institute of Management Mumbai University. The two were employed with J.W. Thompson company, as well as the SPAR company and the Chatterjee Soros Group at the time as well. They were ambitious in 2007 to come up with the website known as BookMyShow. This start-up was basically to introduce the idea of online ticket booking of movies in India. and soon as it grew it ventured in providing online ticketing solutions for theatre events concerts and sports.
During the early days of operations at BookMyShow, there was a much smaller team handling everything that was happening at the site. It now runs a team of more than 400 members. Online ticketing platform has been seen as one of the main causes of its success owing to its service being provided under the name BookMyShow.

BookMyShow is an online ticketing facility like Movietickets.com, Explara & Ticketmaster.com Among the main services offered by the above two sites and more about movies, plays, events, sports etc BookMyShow has clubbed it into one site for movie tickets. In addition to the ticket booking service, the website provides information of movies and events in near future, show schedules and location information and brief introduction of the artists.
Funding & Company Valuation
Shortly after the launch of BookMyShow the company was funded by Network18 to be specific the first round of funding happened in 2007. Accel Partners invested USD 18 million for the investment in BookMyShow in August 2012. After this investment the total value of the company was USD 58.33 million. Accel Partners are venture capital investors with global equity investment; they invest in companies such as Face book, Drop box, and Flippkart.
In the June 2014, the Company revealed that it has secured USD 25 million investment funding from SAIF Partners and another global equity player.
The latest funding puts it on a totally new level of USD166.67 million up from the previous funding of USD 58.33 million raised in 2012. Other v ventures that have been supported by SAIF Partners are Justdial.com and Makemytrip.com.
Acquisitions
March, 2013: OnLine entertainment ticketing service provider company – BookMyShow acquires Ticketgreen, an online ticketing company in Chennai.
