MrMed, a Chennai-Based Health-Tech Start-Up, Awarded Start-up of the Year 2022 by FICCI

MrMed bagged the ‘Healthcare Start-up of the Year 2022’ at the annual TANCARE event held by FICCI (The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry) in Chennai on 12th November 2022.

MrMed is India’s largest online pharmacy for super specialty medicines like anti-cancer medicine, HIV/ AIDS, arthritis and transplant medicines. MrMed goes beyond the call of a pharma marketplace by providing several patient-centric services, including enrolment and adherence to patient assistance programs (PAP).

The foundation of MrMed was laid in the year 2021 to remove the stigma associated with specialty medicine prices and provide effective treatments at lower prices to patients across India. Since then, MrMed has served the community by,

  • Delivering life-saving medicines to 12000+ customers
  • Delivering over 30000 orders in over 1200 cities
  • Helping patients save more than six crore rupees

Healthcare start-ups provide various solutions across different healthcare areas, like medicines, healthcare products, equipment, diagnostic tests, etc. Healthcare is a highly competitive and regulated sector which plays a major role in the Indian economy. The healthcare market is classified into three main segments – pharmaceutical companies, hospitals and pharmacies. Among these, the pharmacy segment has witnessed strong traction, with a large number of start-ups entering this domain. This is being powered through internet reach and the proliferation of smartphones.

This healthcare segment is governed by multiple regulatory laws like the Drugs & Cosmetics Rules, the Information Technology Act, and the Pharmacy Practice Regulations. Besides, there is also strong opposition from retail pharmacies, that online pharmacies are undercutting them on prices. Questions are been raised on the legality, especially on the delivery of medicine based on a digital prescription in online pharmacies. However, with the draft Pharmaceutical Policy, the Indian government recognised online pharmacies. The start‑ups in this segment have demanded a unified license regime that will allow them to deliver medicines pan-India, and even formed an association called the Indian Internet Pharmacy Association (IIPA) to adhere to various laws governing this segment.

There are various pros and cons of being an online pharmacy. Many people approach online pharmacies to get medicines at discounted prices delivered to them at their comfort and without any hassle. But some people fear being conned and are doubtful about their purchase. However, MrMed, with its excellent team, has managed to conquer it all and emerge as an extremely reliable and patient-centric source to cater to all the super specialty medicine needs.
