Interesting Facts About S.J Surya

S. Justin Selvaraj is an Indian film director, producer, writer, and an actor who is mostly seen in Kollywood industry. The actor is popularly known as S.J. Surya and it's his screen name. He enjoys a wide following due to his broad outlook and outspoken attitude. 

Personal Background
Born on 20 July 1968 in Puliangudi, to Pandian and Anandham in Vasudevanallur, Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. He has an elder brother and a sister by the names Victor and Selvi. He finished his schooling at The Indian High School, Dubai. And then went to complete his BA Sociology at Loyola College, Chennai. Post his schooling the actor decided to move to chennai and did his graduation there with the aim of finding opportunities to become an actor in Tamil language movies. Prior to joining as an apprentice under K. Bhagyaraj, he worked in hotels as a steward. In addition to that he also worked as an assistant director in 1985 with the teams of Aasai under Vasanth and Sabapathy in the movie Sundara Purushan in 1996.

While working for the Ullaasam team he met Thala Ajith Kumar and saw Surya through their collaboration at Aasai and agreed to listen to his script. Actor Ajith Kumar was impressed with his writing and praised S. S. Chakravarthy to produce and the team immediately started working on the film Vaali in 1999 with Ajith Kumar Simran and Jyothika appearing in the lead role. After that the movie gained a lot of popularity among the people. A. M. Rathnam who saw the premiere show of the movie gave him a chance to direct another movie titled Kushi which is a romantic comedy film starring Vijay and Jyothika. Following that, the team approached Pawan Kalyan to play the Telugu version of the movie and after a series of narrative sessions in which Bhumika Chawla appeared in the lead role.

The actor also tried his hands on negative roles as he first signed a bilingual movie ‘spyder’ directed by A.R Murugadoos with Mahesh Babu and Rakul Preet Singh in leading roles. The movie received positive acclaim for S.J Surya’s top notch acting but failed at the box-office. Whereas, he also acted in Vijay’s Mersal which turned out to be a blockbuster movie and his acting was widely appreciated.
