Top 5 Benefits Of Using Baking Soda

Household staple in most pantries, baking soda has recently been raking up a lot of mileage these days as a skin care treatment, just because it exfoliates and heals. If your skin feels a little coarse and bumpy, you can turn to baking soda as the most natural alternative to those harsh products that have layers of chemicals underneath. Baking soda is a safe and versatile compound that presents several benefits in terms of exfoliation, antifungal, antibacterial properties, and calming the skin," said Dr. Rinky Kapoor, consultant dermatologist. Here's why baking soda might be the next best thing to add to your skincare arsenal:

1. Healing acne: Mild acne is dried with baking soda as an abrasive. Baking soda mixed in a thick paste with water and applied over the spots of acne for about 15 minutes, two to three times a day help heal acne much faster.

2. Fading Dark Spots: The bleaching effect in baking soda fades dark spots. Sodium bicarbonate, which exists in baking soda, also occurs commonly in commercial over-the-counter bleaching creams.

3. Removal of Blackheads: Baking soda is a mild exfoliating agent. It softens the skin and pushes out the blackheads. However, do not scrub too hard because you can easily irritate your skin.

4. Removing Dead Skins: Due to the alkaline nature of baking soda, dead skin cells whose pores have been opened can be scrubbed off to provide a smooth and delicate skin appearance.

5. Lip, Elbow, and Knee Whitening: Baking soda can be applied in exfoliating the skin, and it is also well known for skin lightening with respect to lips, elbows, and knees.

According to Dr Kapoor, baking soda should not be applied if you have dry or sensitive skin as it may tend to aggravate it and hence safer avoided. It shouldn't be applied daily. It is quite sufficient if it is applied once or twice a week. I think you shouldn't apply it overnight because it may cause some side effects. Use only in the short term for safe, glowing skin!
