Do you ever wonder what the salary of the head of a country's central bank is in comparison to the CEO of a commercial bank? In this blog article, we will be exploring the salary of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor, Shaktikanta Das, and comparing it to the salary of a CEO of a commercial bank in India. Read on to discover more!

According to an Right to Information (RTI) response, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das' salary was a mere Rs 2.5 lakhs per month last year. This means that the man in charge of India's financial system makes about 40 times less than the bankers he regulates! Moneycontrol reports that the salary is in-line with the State Bank of India (SBI) Chairman, who earns approximately Rs 34 lakhs per year.

When talking about the salaries of the top private bank leaders in India, it might be easy to think that those of the Chairman of the State Bank of India would be comparable. However, the stark reality paints a very different picture - the salaries of the top five private bankers range from 2.3 crores to a whopping 7.1 crores per annum. That's over 10 times the salary of the SBI Chairman and the regulator who supervises them! This huge disparity is bound to raise some eyebrows.
