Is Meera Shikakai Good For Hair? What Are Its Side effects?
Meera Shikakai Powder from the house of CavinKare has been in the market for a very very long time. It is widely popular particularly in the southern parts and is easily available in every nook and corner store. This product follows a traditional recipe with Shikakai, Soap Nuts, and various other Indian Herbs, which is why it is recommended by our moms and elders. In our family, my husband is the one who uses this powder religiously. And since we have it stocked up, I use it whenever I feel like using it. Over the years, I guess the formula has been changed a bit. The one I have is the one available currently. Let’s get into the details of the product first, before going into our experience with the product.

Meera Shikakai Powder Review
Packaging: Meera Shikakai Powder comes in a variety of sizes which is a big plus. They have jar packaging and pouch packaging as well. Personally, I like those sachets as it’s easier to use. I don’t have to measure the quantity or need a scoop or anything. I can easily use a single sachet for every wash. Mr.Hubby uses just half a sachet for his short hair. Every packaging type has every detail about the product on it including the batch no and ingredient list. The product has a strong scent of Herbs which lingers post rinsing too.
Texture & Application: Meera Herbal Hairwash Powder is a very finely milled dry powder that is to be mixed with water before usage. It mixes easily and does not form lumps. Application is very easy as this powder lathers to a rich foam like a sulfate shampoo. I wonder if the product contains hidden surfactants since it does not state its full ingredients. I may be wrong too because SoapNuts tend to foam up too. Leaving up to you to decide.
Effectiveness: Moving on, the Shikakai Powder washes off without leaving much residue on the scalp, unlike traditional Shikakai Powder which would require generous rinses. The shampoo powder is able to clean the scalp off dirt and oils. On days when I have freshly oiled or have used a thicker Oil, I need to double wash to get rid of the oils completely.
The post-drying results are what will make you astonished. The product leaves my hair extremely soft, silky smooth which stays that way for the next couple of days. The softness is not fake as like using silicone conditioners which weigh down my hair, but it is as though I have to use a hair pack or done hot hair oil treatment. I have this urge to keep touching my hair whenever I use the Meera Shikakai Powder.
Overall, I love using the Meera Shikakai Powder. It is one of the cheapest yet effective herbal hair cleansers in India that I have tried. There are no side effects of using this Shikakai Powder. I would rate it a 4.8 out of 5.
