Dulal Lahiri Biography

Early Life and Education

The date of birth for Lahiri is August 24, 1947, in Kolkata, West Bengal, as he finished his studies at Scottish Church Collegiate School in 1965. After completing his commerce degree he studied intermediate chartered accountancy before he started his acting career. 

Theatre Beginnings

Lahiri started his acting career in theater productions under the direction of the revered playwrights Manoj Mitra and Soumitra Chatterjee. Lahiri believes actors require theatre training because only theatrical presentations provide the skills necessary for genuine performances. 

Transition to Film and Television

Lahiri accomplished substantial breakthroughs in Bengali motion pictures after his movement from the traditional theater to the screen. Through his career in Bengali cinema Lahiri starred in multiple films such as "Paromitar Ek Din" (2000) and "Byomkesh O Chiriyakhana" (2016). On television, Lahiri received high praise for "Cinemawalla" (1993), featuring alongside Rituparna Sengupta along with his versatile acting. In his directorial work "Balikar Prem" he launched the acting career of actress Sreelekha Mitra.
