Aimee achieved another milestone as a filmmaker when her lovingly created, award-winning film, Semkhor (2021), was screened at even more prestigious international film festivals, especially at the recently concluded 52nd International Film Festival of India. She also produced the film, which depicted the realities, culture, and way of life of a particular Bright Norin Dimasa tribal community. Aimee’s film, Semkhor, was praised for its authenticity, visual storytelling techniques, and -most importantly- the sensitivity shown towards a marginalized community. Semkhor received the Rajat Kamal Award for Best Dimasa Film at the National Film Awards, and this was a moment of pride for the Assamese film industry.

Before taking on the role of director, Aimee was recognized as one of the talented actresses in Assam. She has acted in a few films, such as Prem Aru Prem, Pani, and Ajoli Nobou. Aimee has been a host on television, as a graceful hostess and eloquent public speaker.

Apart from her contribution to cinema, Aimee Baruah is married to Pijush Hazarika, a minister in the Assam government, and they are considered among the most popular couples in the state. Even with her busy schedule, she is involved in a variety of social and cultural initiatives, especially as they relate to women’s empowerment and education in rural Assam. With her talent, intelligence and vision, Aimee Baruah is the definition of an ambassador of Assamese cinema and is inspiring a new generation of filmmakers and artists to start telling stories that arise out of their culture and identity.
