Biography of Navneet Singh

Navneet Singh Chahal, a 2011-batch IAS officer, took office as the new District Magistrate (DM) of Prayagraj on September 2, 2023. Before this, he served as the DM of Agra, where his diligent work earned him this promotion to a more significant district. Chahal succeeded Sanjay Kumar Khatri, who held the position of DM for over two years and has now been appointed as the Additional Chief Executive Officer (ACEO) of Noida.

Early Life of Navneet Singh Chahal
Navneet Singh Chahal was born on 14 May 1984 in Panipat, Haryana. He belonged to an educated family. His father, Satyapal Singh Chahal, was working with the National Fertilizers Limited in Panipat, and his mother, Parveen Chahal, was a history lecturer in one of the nearby schools. He was a brilliant student from an early age; he topped his school examination results. Chahal completed his Electrical Engineering from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh, followed by an MBA in Finance from MDI, Gurugram, and a Master of Finance from ESCP Europe, Paris.

Navneet Singh Chahal's Career Path
Chahal first worked as a financial analyst in the USA after clearing the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA Level 2). New York and Mumbai were the destinations to which his professional journey took him for three years. However, public service beckoned him back to India. He cleared the UPSC exam in 2011 and joined the Uttar Pradesh cadre as an IAS officer. His first posting was that of a Joint Magistrate in Bahraich. Later, he served as the Chief Development Officer in Meerut. Chahal has had considerable exposure to development work with a varied focus on housing, pension schemes, sanitation, and even solar lighting for disadvantaged sections.

In 2017, Chahal was appointed as the DM of Amroha. He addressed the issue of food distribution fraud and initiated activities for environmental sustainability by planting trees as well as implementing operations to discourage deforestation.
