G.V. Prakash Kumar is a multi-talented Indian composer, playback singer, actor, and producer who primarily works in Tamil cinema. Prakash Kumar made his debut as a composer in 2006 with the Veyil film but gained popularity in the early 2010s. In 2015, he acted in Darling. He has won several prestigious awards throughout his career, such as a National Award, three Filmfare Awards, and three SIIMA Awards.
Early Life
G. V. Prakash Kumar is the son of G. Venkatesh and playback singer A. R. Reihana, sister of A. R. Rahman, Indian film composer, singer-songwriter, and record producer. He has a small sibling named Bhavani Sre who is an actress. She is recognized for playing in Viduthalai: Part 1 and Ka Pae Ranasingam.
Personal Life
In 2013, he married his childhood friend and singer Saindhavi. He has a daughter, Anvi, born in 2020. He announced separation in May 2024.
Career
Music Direction
Prakash began his musical journey as a vocalist on the Tamil film Gentleman (1993) soundtrack, for which his uncle, A. R. Rahman, had composed the music. His first full-fledged outing as a composer was Tamil film Veyil in 2006, for which he also acted and received rave reviews from critics. His movies such as Madrasapattinam in 2010, Aayirathil Oruvan in 2009, and Aadukalam in 2010 made him reach the top. He has worked for many big films, like Asuran (2019) and Soorarai Pottru in the year 2020, for which he bagged major awards.
Acting
Prakash is a graduate in acting from the renowned Sri Vidya Theatre Academy. He enacted in Darling, which was released in 2015. He later appeared in Trisha Illana Nayanthara 2015 and in Naachiyaar 2018. Recently, his Selfie (2022) and Adiyae (2023) received appreciation for their positive response.
