Dhyamappa Channannavar and Ratnamma, his parents, cherished him as the apple of their eye. Ravi embarked on his educational journey in a local establishment in Dharwad, the Nilgunda government school. Originating from a financially deprived milieu, Ravi was acquainted with life's harsh realities well before his years and willingly shouldered the burden of his own education.
He shouldered the responsibility of his education from a young age, working as a sweeper in theaters and later as a hotel waiter during his pre-university years. His commitment showed in his remarkable academic achievements.

In 2007, he pursued IAS training in Hyderabad, and in his inaugural attempt at the Civil Services Examination (CSE) conducted by UPSC in 2008, Ravi D Channannavar achieved a remarkable rank of 703, solidifying his presence among the top candidates across the nation. Ravi D Channannavar commenced his career as an Additional Superintendent of Police in Belgaum in 2011. He went on to serve in various districts, including Dharwad, Hospet, Hassan, Bangalore, Davangere, and Shivamogga, and is currently serving in Mysore. His secret to success, he says, is self-confidence, persistence, and a disciplined lifestyle.
Championing Women's Safety and Community Initiatives
In his role, Ravi D Channannavar initiated the "Onake Obavva Pade" program to protect women from stalkers and crimes. He launched people-friendly police and village stay programs, along with medical and police assistance for canteen staff. To support farmers, he introduced the "nammuralobba Saadhaka" project and provided free training for aspiring IAS officers. Notably, he adeptly handled the Ganesh Utsav violence in Shivamogga in 2015, imposing Section 144 when necessary.
A Warrior Against Cybercrime and a Public Servant
To combat cybercrime, Ravi D Channannavar mandated the installation of security software 'icafemanager' in all cyber cafes in Shivamogga district.
