Bina Ramani was born into a prosperous Sindhi-Sikh family in Karachi, during British India. The youngest of nine siblings, her family relocated to Bombay after the partition of India in 1947. Her father exchanged their Karachi residence for a luxurious villa owned by a Muslim businessman. The child's life was that of affection, discipline, and moral teaching, according to the Sikh scripture, the Guru Granth Sahib.

The family gradually migrated to the United Kingdom, most of all her brothers settling in London by 1959, a common trend among Sindhi business families at that time. Bina studied at a Bombay school and pursued higher studies in Decorative Arts at a London institution. She was introduced to her family's jewelry design business early, giving her much experience in selling and marketing herself.
